5:5 God blesses those who are gentle and lowly, There is a special way for the followers of JESUS to behave. The two terms HE uses to describe this way are: Gentle and Lowly Meek is another way. Notice that HE does not say timid! HE also didn't say whiney, fearful, weak or shy. That is because it takes a very faithful and strong person to be truly gentle! If we are just posing gentleness out of fear, we are not reflecting the character of JESUS. If our lowliness comes from a lack of esteem, again we miss the point. Think about it. JESUS was GOD! And HE was gentle and lowly. This is one of the major reasons I choose to serve HIM. HE is all-powerful and yet never uses HIS power in a way to hurt a person. And there you have it. Everyone has the power to hurt. Do we? We can, and sometimes it is even very tempting, to hurt when we have been hurt. But we must remember that even though we have the power to be, well, powerful, we use our resources to nurture! JESUS always took the time to understand what was going on in a person, then HE met all that person's needs. HE could never have done this unless HE was gentle and lowly. (When I get to this point in teaching, I always like to do a disclaimer - If you are being abused in any way, or if you are dealing with a person who is apparently irretrievable form demonic influence, it is not your role to be gentle. This is a case where the power that JESUS placed in you is to be used, first to remove yourself and then, with HIS guidance, to take action.) Look at your life. Who do you have under your power to influence. Make a choice today to use that influence to nurture and guide. Be gentle and lowly with the person. By doing so, you may win a soul for the LORD and a life-long friend for you! Got JESUS? www.christonaa.org
