Psalms 150:3-6
"Praise HIM with the sounding of the trumpet,
praise HIM with the harp and lyre,
praise HIM with tambourine and dancing,
praise HIM with the strings and flute,
praise HIM with the clash of cymbals,
praise HIM with resounding cymbals.
Let everything that has breath
praise the LORD."
Praise the LORD.
Sounds like a party! Doesn't it? Here we see praise music described. These are somewhat different instruments and some similar instruments to our lineup today. I will tell you what I think about the music that is praise . . . .
First it should be exciting. The LORD loves music. Music is HIS creation, not ours. Like all else, we get to enjoy the benefits of HIS handiwork. We are privileged to use music to honor and praise HIM.
Now, I am not saying slow music is not good music, but with all the clashing and resounding of cymbals, this music described herein is fast, powerful and . . . loud! It is like rock and roll. Did anyone slip and fall on that statement? If you look back through time at the world's popular music, it always fit the description above.
Now, I am not going the route here that secular music is a copy of the LORD'S music, even though it should be. Actually the opposite is true too many times - the latest Christian song sounds an awful lot like last year's hit rock song. Always remember that the LORD is the Originator and the world is the copier! Or, at least that is the natural order of things.
Interestingly enough, satan when he was Lucifer, was a musician. He even had pipes built in to his person. So, why should he not use music to advance his plans. The sad truth is that we are way behind his plan and program in the church instead of being on the cutting edge. Over the years this has been because we were afraid of having anything "secular sounding" inside our hallowed walls.
Not the way HE planed it. If we got away from our fears about what may or may not insult the LORD (or first time visitors), we would have been and should now be the trend-setters that the world is copying. Really!
So, lets get rid of our tradition (the bad parts) and our prejudice and our concern about being "holy" and let the music
Play, Proclaim and Prosper!
